“New Amsterdam” is a medical drama television series that premiered in 2018 on NBC. The show is loosely based on the book “Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital” by Eric Manheimer, a former medical director at New York City’s Bellevue Hospital.
The series is set in a fictional hospital, New Amsterdam Medical Center, and follows the life and work of Dr. Max Goodwin, played by Ryan Eggold. Dr. Goodwin becomes the new medical director of the hospital with a mission to reform and improve the institution’s healthcare services for the benefit of its patients.
