What a name for a town! Hamtramck, which is surrounded by the city of Detroit, isn’t just the poorest town in Michigan – it’s one of the poorest in the country. A staggering 45% of residents rely on SNAP benefits to put food on the table.

Besides having such an odd name, Hamtramck is also known for being the most diverse city in the state of Michigan, which they’re rather proud of. Signs in the town read, “The World in Two Square Miles,” because of this fact.
