New York is one of the most incredible cities in the world.  Each year, millions of people flock to the city to experience what its like to be in the Big Apple.  Although many have dreams of visiting the city, they often feel overwhelmed once they arrive.  Due to its crowded streets and high buildings, New York certainly takes some getting used to for those visiting from out-of-town.  However, once people learn to navigate the city, and become away of all of the great things it has to offer, it quickly becomes evident that those fortunate enough to call New York home are among a fortunate group of people.  Whether you’re looking to move to New York, or have been living there for years and have taken it for granted; here are 20 reasons why New Yorkers are the luckiest people on earth.

Bars in New York are open until 4am.

In many cities throughout the country, closing time is at 2am sharp.  However, New Yorkers are used to partying a little later.  In New York City is it very common for clubs and bars to stay open until 4 in the morning, allowing for two extra hours of party time on average.

New Yorkers tend to live longer than other people.

Many people criticize city life; however, over the last several years, studies have shown that New Yorkers are likely to live longer than people living in other parts of the country.

Hip-hop was invented in New York.

During the 1970s, hip-hop culture was born.  Since its inception, hip-hop has gone from an underground culture to one of the most popular music genres in the world.  Amazingly, it all started in the legendary south side Bronx.

Many theaters to choose from.

New York City is home to several dozen theaters.  Each years, some of the best stage productions in the world are performed in New York.  The Theater District is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city and include the infamous Broadway.

Many artists/bands get their start in New York.

For most people with dreams of pursuing a career in music, performing in New York is a must.  As the saying goes ‘ if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere’ and many acts often find themselves doing small shows in New York before they achieve fame.  This can be great for music-loving New Yorkers who often get to see some of the best acts while they’re still on the rise.

There’s plenty of people to meet.

With a population of more than 8 million, there’s certainly no shortage of people to meet in the city.  On a daily basis, New Yorkers have a great chance of running into some cool new people.

The subway runs 24/7.

Public transportation is great, especially in a city like New York where driving is often convenient.  However, unlike other city-dwellers, New Yorkers are fortunate enough to have a metro system that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  This means that when the club closes at four, the subway will still be up and running.

You can find food at any time of day – or night.

Bars and clubs aren’t the only thing in New York City that stays open late.  There are plenty of restaurants and cafes that keep late hours, so New Yorkers who prefer venturing out at night can always find something to eat.

New York has the best pizza.

New York is famous for a lot of things; and, the city’s pizza has quite the reputation.  Fortunately for New Yorkers, they have access to this amazing pizza on a regular basis, and there are also many places in the city that sell slices for just a dollar.

You can have experience several different cultures without ever leaving the city.

Your favorite artist – no matter how big or small – will always perform in New York.
