20 of the Most Insane NFL Fan Bases in the Country

cowboys

The NFL is one of the most profitable franchises in the world. I hold a soft spot for them, and have since 2012 when the league reached out to me to join in their panel of moms and writers out to bring attention to the Heads Up Football Program in which they partnered with USA Football and the CDC to bring awareness to game safety and concussions. Working with the commissioner and the league in general has been such an exciting experience, and their dedication to bringing awareness to not only coaches and players, but also families of child athletes in an effort to make the game safer is something I find very important. Of course, other people love the NFL because of the actual game, and no one loves the NFL more than these 20 crazy and insane fan bases.

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys are a good team, but their fans are insane. What can you say about a team filled with people who will go so far as to send hate mail, messages and a lot of un-loving words and statements to one of the most famous singers and businesswomen in the world thanks to the fact that their quarterback wasn’t performing well? When Jessica Simpson dated their quarterback and the team kept losing important games, the fans blamed her for his poor performance and demanded she stay away from Tony Romo and the team. Talk about hardcore and dedicated; that’s a Cowboy fan.

Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore Ravens

The team might not have the same legacy or history as other teams across the nation, but their fans have really rallied in the past few years. That’s what winning seasons will do for a team, of course. Since their Super Bowl win in 2012, people have really become bigger fans of the Ravens, and they’ve rallied around their team in recent seasons when certain players have done some inappropriate things off the field and made the team look bad. The Ravens’ fan base is growing like crazy, and it’s impressive.

bills

Buffalo Bills

This is a fan base with a lot of passion, and they are hardcore about it. Decked out in their Bills clothing and their appreciation, they show up every single weekend ready to win a game and ready to do what they have to do to keep their team’s spirits up. They’re known for being difficult on the fans of opposing teams whether they are in their own house or visiting the field of another team. They just don’t care; they have a game to win and a team to support and everyone and everything else is just meaningless.

Patriots

New England Patriots

With Tom Brady at the helm and more championships in the shortest number of years than practically anyone else has ever bothered to accumulate, it’s pretty safe to say that the Pats have one of the most insane fan bases in the country. This is one of the most hated and most loved teams around, and even when the team is in trouble for things like deflated balls (it’s a problem, right?) people still love and defend them like they have done nothing wrong. It’s a hell of a fan base.

broncos

Denver Broncos

I’m happy to admit that I’m a college football fan all the way, and that the NFL does nothing for me (though I have worked with the NFL for many  years with their Heads Up Program and they are just a dream), but it’s the Gators that do it for me. However, when our beloved and esteemed Tim Tebow headed to Denver for a while, I will say we did tune in to watch him play. And now that Peyton Manning is there, the team is making more fans and creating an even more insane fan base than ever before. It’s impressive.

Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks

There is a serious fandom here that other teams just don’t get. In fact, the Seahawks home field, located in CenturyLink Field, is one of the most intimidating, most imposing stadiums in which opposing teams have the honor of visiting, and it has a lot to do with the fact that the fans here are just so involved in the game, in their team and in what the field means to them. Of course, the success of the team is also a given, and people love a winning team.

jets

New York Jets

What a fan base. These fans are hardcore, all the way. They love their team, and they love their city, and they are ready to fight to the death. There is no big secret that New Yorkers are pretty hardcore when it comes to their personalities and their teams, and the Jets are no exception to this rule. Fans are crazy about their team, and they’ll show up ready to rumble each and every time. It’s just part of the team’s charm and character.

packers

Green Bay Packers

If ever there was a group of people you might assume are the most hardcore in the game, it might be the Packers. They love their team, and they love their city. These people are ready to show up to any game, no matter the weather, decked out and ready to root for their team. And they’re also not in the mood for other people’s shenanigans. Of course, the Packers is the only team in the entire city, so it only makes sense that everyone would be a fan. They have nothing else.

chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs

It doesn’t matter to Chiefs fans that it’s been a really, really, really long time since they’ve done anything worthwhile. A team is a team is a team (and I get it as a lifelong Florida Gator these past few years) and these fans love their team. They are hardcore. They show up every single weekend decked out in their Chiefs gear looking like a bunch of Indians ready to do battle in hopes that they will eventually pull off a winning season or even a championship after more than 4 and-a-half decades of not winning.

City Of Chicago

Chicago Bears

They aren’t the most famous team in the country, or the best team in the country. They’re a solid team with a great starting lineup, but they have some seriously diehard fans rooting for them. Of course, you’d have to have diehard fans if you’re going to get people out in weather like they have in Chicago to watch the team play their games, and that’s saying a lot. Additionally, the team has a long history of famous players and coaches, and it makes it easy for people to want to cheer for the Bears.

New Orleans Saints

New Orleans Saints

Who doesn’t love the Saints and Drew Brees, in particular? Even talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres has taken a liking to the Saints because of their famous quarterback. She’s a self-proclaimed new football fan who has taken a liking to her hometown team, and just about everyone else in the world has, too. The Saints are credited for helping give the people of New Orleans something good in their lives following the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, and people have not forgotten that.

New York Giants

New York Giants

The other big team in New York is the Giants, and fans are fans. They are some of the most intimidating and most hardcore fans in the business, and people know it and love it. Fans of the Giants aren’t quite as crazy and loud as Jets’ fans, but they’re still really into their team. They just happen to have a little more success to calm them down and bring them peace. But they are still among the loudest and craziest fans in the business, in the country.

eagles

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles’ fans are often described as loud, obnoxious and kind of mean to those who like any team but theirs. But isn’t that the case in almost all football rivalries? Known for being more aggressive and meaner than other fans, however, Eagles’ fans are hardcore. They show up, they stick around and they are not pleasant if their team loses a game. Just try not to run into an Eagles’ fan on the way out of the stadium if they don’t show up to win. It could be ugly.

browns

Cleveland Browns

I will tell you this from experience; I’m a Florida girl born and raised, and the Browns are not my team. They’re not even close to my team. But we once went to Cleveland for a business meeting (my husband and I) and his clients took us to a game against the Seahawks. In November; in the snow. The field is open air, next to the lake and it was at night. And despite the freezing rain, the cold the absolute misery (and the fact that the game went into two overtimes, naturally) people did not leave. They were not discouraged and they were insane. I was ice. These fans are crazy about their team.

steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers

Steelers fans are everywhere, not just in Pitt. At almost 32, Florida is my lifelong residence, and I cannot tell you the number of Steelers fans we have around here. And not just those that have retired and moved here for our far superior weather, either. It’s people my own age that were also born and raised here but jumped on the success of the Steelers’ bandwagon many years ago. That’s how hardcore their fans are; they’re all over the world and they’re in it to win it.

lions

Detroit Lions

We are talking about a city in which life has become pretty desolate and depressing for many. The crash of the economy closed a lot of businesses, people became jobless, homeless and went from living comfortably to living well below the poverty line. They are dealing with a huge drug problem and crime problem, and other problems as well. And that means football is an escape. Fans here have always been enthusiastic, but they’re even more so now.

San Francisco

San Francisco 49ers

49ers fans are like Steelers fans; they are all over the country whether people have been to a game or even been to San Francisco in their lives. It doesn’t matter; people love this team and they are hardcore about it. 49ers fans are known for their trash talking and their love of football, and they show up every single week to support their team, quickly pointing out all that is wrong with other teams and all that is right with their own team; win or lose.

Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota Vikings

It’s cold in Minnesota. You would think that would mean people preferred to stay home on Sundays and watch their team from the warmth and comfort of their own home, but nope. They’d prefer to trudge out and about in the cold weather to watch as their team plays some of the country’s best and they are hardcore about it. You will be hard-pressed to find a group of more dedicated and into-it fans anywhere else than you will in Minnesota.

colts

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts are a team that has seen some great players and some great success, and that has generated a number of very hardcore fans over the years. These are people that are looking forward to football season from the moment it ends until the day it begins, and they are not looking forward to anything else. They want to play ball and they want to win, and their passion is very evident and very noticeable to others.

Oakland Raiders

Oakland Raiders

Raiders’ fans are so into the game that some of them might think they are on the field with the team, even though they are not. Raiders’ fans are so into the game; they make other fans look like puppy dogs in comparison, and it’s almost funny to watch them as they try to tell others that their team is the best and when they try to make it sound like their losses are the fault of everyone but their team and their inability to win a particular game.
