Five Important Spots To Vacuum And How To Get In There

For many people, cleaning isn’t a task that they look forward to, however, it needs to get done. Scrubbing the bathrooms, dusting the furniture, washing the floors, and vacuuming are the most common household tasks on cleaning day. When most people vacuum, they go over their carpets to pick up any dirt and debris and they put the vacuum cleaner away. While it is important to pick up all of the dirt from the carpets, there are several areas of the home that many people overlook, however, they should be cleaned regularly. Below is a list of the most common places that people skip when they are cleaning their homes.

Windows

Windows and window treatments can collect dirt and debris the same way that your carpets can. The first start with the shades or blinds. Running your vacuum over the back and front of the blinds will remove all of the dust. If you have curtains in your windows, you don’t need to wash them every time you clean them. You would simply need to use the brush attachment to vacuum them. Be sure to pay special attention to the top of the curtains. This is where the most dust can accumulate. Next, you should clean the windowsills. Start by opening the window and vacuum everything between the screen and the sill. Over time, debris can build up. If you keep up with cleaning the window sills, you won’t need to worry about this area becoming a dusty mess.

Refrigerator Coils

One of the dustiest places in your home is the coils in your refrigerator. Getting to the coils in the back is simple. You just need to pull the refrigerator away from the wall. To get in between the coils, you should use the crevice attachment. This is the long skinny one. Be sure to get as deep into the coils as possible. Next, vacuum the space between the refrigerator and the wall. Finally, use the brush attachment to remove all of the dust from the wall.

There is also a grate in front of your refrigerator that can collect dust. To clean this, you should remove it. Most refrigerator grates can be removed with a Phillips head screwdriver. Using the crevice attachment, vacuum all of the dust out. This doesn’t need to be done every time you clean. You should do it at the change of every season. When your refrigerator coils have a great deal of dust buildup, your refrigerator will need to work harder to stay cold. This can cause you energy bills to be higher than normal. A good cleaning every season will keep the refrigerator functioning properly.

Heating and Air Conditioning Vents

When dust collects in your heating and air conditioning vents, it will spread around the home each time your turn on your heat or your AC. This can make the air in the home unhealthy. To clean these spaces, you should use the soft brush, which is the one with the bristles. Not only will it suck up the dirt, but the bristles will scrape off any dust that is stuck on the vents. This is something that should be done every time you clean your house. It is the only way to keep the air quality in the home safe and clean.

Clean Your Brooms

If you want to effectively clean your house, you need to clean with tools that are clean. When you use your broom, it gets built up with dirt and debris. Oftentimes, this dirt and debris remain trapped in between the bristles of the broom. The next time you go to sweep your floors, the dirt from the last cleaning will end up on the floor again. You should also clean your dustpan’s brush. To do this, you should use one of your vacuum cleaner’s hand held attachments. Be sure to get between the bristles and carefully vacuum the bottom of the brush and the broom. When you do this, you will be using a clean, dust free tool the next time you clean.

Dryer Lint Chamber

When you clean the dryer lint from the trap, you need to do more than remove the trap and get rid of the lint. You also need to clean the chamber that holds the lint trap. It is not uncommon for the some of the lint to remain in the chamber. Not only will this make your dryer work less efficiently, it is also a major fire hazard. If too much lint gets built up in the chamber, it can heat up when you are using the dryer. This can cause a fire to break out inside of the dryer. If this happens, it won’t take long for the fire to spread outside of the dryer and into the home. The best tool to use is the Lint Lizard vacuum attachment. This attachment does not come standard with your vacuum cleaner. You would need to purchase it separately. You can buy this attachment on Amazon or at Walmart, and it is very reasonably priced.

If you don’t have the Lint Lizard, you can use your vacuum’s crevice attachment. This should be able to reach deep into your dryer’s lint chamber to remove the lint from inside. Also, at least once a week, you should clean the lint trap with your vacuum’s brush attachment. This is important to be sure that all of the lint has been removed. You don’t need to vacuum the chamber and the lint trap each time you do laundry, however, you should make it part of your cleaning regimen and do it at least once each month.

There is much more to vacuuming your home than just doing the carpets. Dust and debris can spread throughout the house, making it a dusty place if you don’t clean certain areas of the home properly. When you properly vacuum all areas of your home, not only will you be improving the appearance of your home, you will also be able to improve the air quality in your home and make your appliances function more properly.
