After years of waiting, fans of the beloved sitcom finally got their wish. On November 24, 2025, CBS aired a special 90-minute reunion bringing the Barone family back together—or at least, those who remain. The timing might seem odd since the show actually premiered on September 13, 1996, making this more of a 29-year anniversary, but creator Phil Rosenthal had been trying to make this happen for a decade.
Previous attempts at 20th and 25th anniversary specials fell flat with the network, but new CBS president Amy Reisenbach greenlit the project, giving longtime fans what they’d been craving.
The Reunion Arrives
Hosted by Ray Romano and Rosenthal, the special featured appearances from Brad Garrett, Patricia Heaton, Monica Horan, and twins Madylin and Sullivan Sweeten. They gathered on a meticulously recreated set of the iconic Barone living room and kitchen at Television City—complete with that infamous suitcase still sitting on the staircase landing, a nod to one of the show’s most memorable episodes.
Interestingly, Romano kept the original couch all these years, storing it in his home, while Rosenthal held onto the parents’ kitchen furniture. The reunion also paid heartfelt tribute to cast members who have passed: Peter Boyle, who played the grumpy Frank Barone and died in 2006; Doris Roberts, the meddling matriarch Marie, who passed in 2016; and Sawyer Sweeten, one of the twins who played Geoffrey Barone, who tragically died in 2015.
Where Are They Now?
Ray Romano has stayed remarkably busy since the show ended in 2005. The comedian-turned-actor expanded beyond sitcoms, earning acclaim for dramatic roles in Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” and “The Big Sick.” He’s lent his voice to the entire “Ice Age” franchise as Manny the woolly mammoth and recently appeared in Netflix’s “No Good Deed” alongside Lisa Kudrow.
In late 2025, Romano joined the cast of Netflix’s basketball comedy “Running Point” as Coach Norm Stinson. With a net worth of about $200 million, he’s also an avid poker player and owns multiple properties in California. Romano has been married to his wife Anna since 1987, and they have four children together.
Brad Garrett, who won three Emmys for playing the perpetually jealous brother Robert, has built an impressive career in voice acting, lending his distinctive baritone to characters in “Finding Nemo,” “Ratatouille,” and “Garfield’ He appeared in TV series like “Fargo” Season 2, “High Desert,” and Pete Davidson’s “Bupkis.” Garrett operates his own comedy club in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand.
Patricia Heaton followed up Raymond’s success with another nine-season run on ABC’s “The Middle” from 2009 to 2018. In 2025, she’s focusing on faith-based content through her production company FourBoys Entertainment, which she runs with husband David Hunt. Her recent projects include “The Unbreakable Boy,” “The Ritual” opposite Al Pacino, and a recurring role on Paramount+’s “Frasier” Season 2.
The 67-year-old actress has also become a vocal advocate for various causes and maintains a strong social media presence. She and Hunt have been married since 1990 and have four sons together.
