Throughout the years, there have always been multiple styles of homes. Some have been able to stand the test of time, while others turned out to be nothing more than fads. Although classic homes will always have a place in the hearts of many, modern style homes are currently becoming popular all of the world. With several architectural firms currently designing modern houses, it can be easy to start blurring them all together. However, R House, designed by Artigas Architecture, definitely stands out – in the best way possible. Located in Barcelona, Spain the house features a sleek design that almost looks ahead of its time. Built on a slope, architects had to work to accommodate the home to its surroundings. According to the architects, “the difficulty of the great slope is the predominant factor behind this house project.
It is distributed and adapted into the natural ground from pure volumes, instead of making great modifications to the topography, so it creates three habitable levels with wide terrace spaces that have excellent orientation, and a direct and easy relation between the interior and the exterior of the house.” As a result, each level of the house was designed to “adopt the spaces according to a certain program, using natural materials like white concrete natural stone.” Both inside and out, the home accomplishes everything Argitas set out to achieve, and the results are truly breathtaking.
